Home Learning Tuesday 19th October

Good morning,

Daily Skills

Practice your spellings on EdShed and complete today’s times tables task.

Guided Reading

Using your new Read Theory login details, log into Read Theory and complete the “Pre test” which is made up of several short texts. It is important that you do this completely independently as this is what allows the algorithm to assign you comprehension tasks pitched at the right level for you.

English

Last week, we practised writing a descriptive paragraph by stacking the FANTASTICs from our Writing Rainbow. This week we will be applying these skills in an independent piece of writing. Our paragraph will still have a negative intent and will still be about a blitzed street however, we will be writing about the illustration on the next page of the Lion and the Unicorn from the following morning. Take a look at the new illustration below:

Your task today is to jot down some notes and interesting vocabulary for each fantastic. YOU ARE NOT WRITING FULL SENTENCES IN THE BOXES. You may like to magpie some of your own ideas from last week’s writing if they are appropriate.

Here is your planning frame: English – Independent FANTASTICs planning

You may find this list of technical vocabulary helpful:

  • rubble
  • barrage balloons
  • ARP (Air Raid Protection) Wardens
  • rafters
  • chimney pots

Maths

LO: Can I round numbers to 10 and 100?

In Maths, we are spending one final lesson rounding to 10 and 100. However, today the challenge has increased as we will be doing both and the way the questions are asked means that we are working in the abstract.

Work from the page from our Busy Ants book below.

If you are feeling confident, you may begin on Challenge 3.

Star Challenge: Pick one of these explain challenges and answer it in your book: t2-m-254354-year-4-rounding-place-value-maths-mastery-challenge-cards-english_ver_3
